Do you qualify for a UAE Tax Residency Certificate?

Answer five questions. The check tells you which of the three routes you meet, what the certificate costs you and which documents the Federal Tax Authority will ask for.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored.

Fill in the fields and tap Check my eligibility.

How this is calculated

The three routes

  • 183 days or more of physical presence in the UAE within a consecutive 12 month period.
  • 90 to 182 days, if you are a UAE national, a UAE residence permit holder or a GCC national and have a permanent place of residence, employment or a business in the UAE.
  • Centre of interests, without a day count: the UAE is your usual or primary place of residence and the centre of your financial and personal interests.

The fees

AED 50 submission on every application, then AED 1,000 issuance for an individual without a Corporate Tax registration number or AED 500 with one. A hard copy is AED 250. Fees are paid before submission and not refunded if the application is rejected, which is why it pays to check first.

What this check cannot do

  • It cannot count your days. Your official entry and exit report is the number the FTA uses.
  • It does not judge the centre of interests test, that depends on the evidence you can show.
  • It does not tell you whether the certificate removes tax in your home country. That depends on the treaty and on your home country rules. The full background is in our Tax Residency Certificate guide.

Common questions

How many days do I need in the UAE for a Tax Residency Certificate?
183 days within a consecutive 12 month period, or 90 days if you are a UAE national, a UAE residence permit holder or a GCC national and also have a permanent home, employment or a business in the UAE. A third route needs no day count, if the UAE is your usual residence and the centre of your financial and personal interests.
How much does a UAE Tax Residency Certificate cost?
AED 50 submission plus AED 1,000 issuance for an individual without a Corporate Tax registration number, AED 500 with one. A printed hard copy adds AED 250. Most individuals pay AED 1,050. The fees are not refunded if the application is rejected.
Is a tax domicile certificate the same as a tax residency certificate?
Yes. Tax Domicile Certificate is the older name for the same document. The Federal Tax Authority issues it today as a Tax Residency Certificate, with one application and one certificate.
